About us

An Indisputable and Desperate Need

* There are two current studies on the percentage of women working in music.

* The first study concluded that 2 percent of the music producers and 12.8% of the songwriters in the Billboard Top 100 songs are women. The second results ranged from 0-17 percent. **

* Almost half of women in the music industry report being sexually harassed at work, and not feeling safe in creative music industry work or educational spaces.

* Professional opportunities for music producers and songwriters are primarily connection, social, and network-based.

**These two studies are based off the top 100 billboard charting songs of the year and the top 50 streaming songs of the year in each genre. There are no current studies that encompass indie writers/producers, signed writers/producers, and/or student writers/producers, trans/nonbinary writers/producers etc.

“Hyperwknd is the inclusive queer feminist writing camp of my dreams”

Bri Holland
producer, audio engineer, songwriter

“ It’s easy to have your walls up, and to be intimidated and nervous to be vulnerable. But the minute that you get in the room at Hyperwknd it’s a really safe space to put your walls down. There’s a sense of community and uplifting. It’s not, ‘Who’s the loudest in the room,’ it’s ‘Whoever talks the rest will listen’”

Kit Major
artist, songwriter

“It’s a super special place. Working together during something like Hyperwknd made everyone feel like we could be in our element and comfortable with each other, which I think was really special”
